What to say at the door

“Hi, I’m Kaileb with Rocky Coast Electric. I’m going to learn what you want the system to do, look at your current heat and electrical setup, check possible indoor and outdoor locations, and see what Efficiency Maine incentives may apply. Then I can give you a clear next step.”

Customer

Why are they interested?

Discovery conversation

Ask which rooms are hardest to keep comfortable, what they currently heat with, what they spend most of their time doing in the home, and whether they want the heat pump to become their primary heat source. Do not lead with equipment — lead with the problem you are solving.

Home

The current Efficiency Maine claim form uses the 2025 Maine ASHRAE 99.6 design-temperature table. Choose the form reference location that Rocky Coast uses for this project; do not guess if the project falls between listed locations.

Placement conversation

Prioritize the living space and bedrooms the customer cares about most. Look for a clear throw of air into open space, practical line-set routing, condensate drainage, service access, and a safe outdoor location. A location under a deck or busy walkway should trigger installer review because winter condensate can freeze.

Corey field note: target a practical indoor-to-outdoor run. Runs over 30 ft are flagged for installer review, not automatically rejected.

How to explain sizing

“Efficiency Maine wants the heat-pump capacity at the local design temperature to cover at least 80% of the home's peak heating load. If the heat pumps do not cover 100%, qualifying supplemental heat has to cover the balance. For a typical home, their square-footage method uses at least 20 BTU per hour per heated square foot.”

Heat-load estimate

80% minimum HP capacity
Suggested starting nominal equipment size
This rounds the 80% minimum up to a common nominal size. It is a sales starting point, not the final model selection. Use the manufacturer’s heating capacity at the applicable Maine design temperature for the Efficiency Maine worksheet.
Square-footage method = at least 20 BTU/hr per heated square foot. Super-insulated or poorly insulated homes may be better served by approved software; the Efficiency Maine estimator is useful when fuel history is available.

Efficiency Maine form update: the paper copy you photographed is dated 3/1/2026. The current online Residential Heat Pump claim form includes an updated design-temperature reference page. This app's form-prep section is built for the current online form; always download the current official claim form before submission.
How to explain Efficiency Maine

Keep it simple: the rebate is based on qualifying equipment, household eligibility, whole-home sizing, and correct installation by a registered vendor. Single-zone units on Efficiency Maine’s list can be rebate eligible. Multi-zone capacity can count toward sizing, but the multi-zone system itself is not rebate eligible. Final approval comes from Efficiency Maine.

Transition to the sale

“Based on what you told me, this is the setup that best addresses your comfort and heating goals. Here is the estimated project amount, the Efficiency Maine incentive we can reasonably expect if the eligibility checks out, and the deposit needed to move into scheduling.”

Quick summary

Efficiency Maine form prep

This is your page-by-page transfer sheet. Green items are ready from the sales visit. Amber items still need final installer/office confirmation. It does not replace the official Efficiency Maine claim form.
After installation / office completion fields
The registered-vendor and homeowner signatures/dates belong on the official form after the work is complete. This app intentionally does not mark those as complete during the sales visit.

Panel Photo Assist

Use this as a field estimate only. A photo cannot prove service capacity or code compliance. Corey / the electrician must verify the panel before the job is finalized.
No panel photo is attached yet. You can still enter what you can read in person, or close this screen and take the panel photo first.
Tip: photograph the full panel straight-on, then a closer picture of the main breaker and panel label if the markings are hard to read.
